Blue Shield of California has agreed to a multiyear provider contract negotiation with Choice Medical Group Apple Valley and Choice Medical Group Barstow in San Bernardino County.

Members who received contract termination letters will now receive “good news” letters with information on the successful negotiation.

Rady Children’s Health Network and Hospital Successful Contract Negotiation

Blue Shield of California and Blue Shield of California Promise Health have reached contract agreements with Rady Children’s Health Network (RCHN) and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego County.

Members who received contract termination letters regarding Rady Children’s Health Network (RCHN) will now receive “good news” letters with information on the successful negotiation.

Small Group Special Enrollment Period Ends December 15

Posted by

By law, all carriers are required to offer the small group Special Enrollment Period (SEP) one time per year to allow employers to enroll in coverage with a $0 contribution requirement and no minimum participation requirement. The application period is from November 15 to December 15, 2022, for coverage effective January 1, 2023. Carrier administration of the SEP may vary slightly, including recertification at renewal.

Blue Shield Network Update – Rady Children’s and Choice Medical Group

Blue Shield of California has not yet reached an agreement on rates and terms of contracts with Rady Children’s Health Network (RHCN), Rady Children’s Hospitals in San Diego, and Choice Medical Group. Without an agreement, the terminations will become effective as follows:

Blue Shield is preparing a smooth transition to alternate PCPs and medical groups so members will continue to have uninterrupted access to quality care. If a member’s PCP is part of another in-network medical group, they’ll be assigned that same PCP. Otherwise, members will be assigned a new PCP based on geography and availability. PCP reassignment will not occur until the end of the contract period. Members may change their PCP at any time by using the Blue Shield Find a Doctor tool.

With an expansive network, Humana Vision offers a choice of more than 135,000 provider locations nationwide, including independent providers, retail, and online options (LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Target Optical, Ray-Ban, Glasses.com, and ContactsDirect.com).

Starting January 1, 2023, Humana’s network will include Walmart® and Sam’s Club™ vision and optical centers. Current and new Humana Vision members can visit Walmart and Sam’s Club vision and optical centers for eyeglass frames, lenses, and contact lenses as part of their in-network vision benefits. Learn more.

Please note: some optometrists with Walmart and Sam’s Club are independent contractors and may not participate in the Humana Vision network for eye care services like exams. Members can use Humana’s “Find an Eye Doctor” tool or call the provider in advance to confirm if the provider is in network.
