Blue Shield of California continues to provide more value to your small group clients. Here’s a summary of the Q2 updates plus other important 2022 highlights and reminders:

Q2 Rates Now Available For Quoting
The Q2 rate action is a statewide average of less than 1%.

Medical Plan Changes: Minimal
There are minimal changes to Blue Shield’s medical plan portfolio.

Reminder: Four New Medical Plans Added (Effective January 1, 2022)
Effective January 1, 2022, four new medical plans have been added to the portfolio:

The new Bronze 7000/70 Trio ACO plan is particularly attractive with rich benefits at a low cost.

Teladoc Copays
Blue Shield waived Teladoc copays during parts of 2020 and all of 2021. In 2022, the $0 copay will remain in place for HMO, PPO, Trio HMO, and Tandem PPO plans. For high deductible plans, copayment will be required beginning on the plan’s renewal date in 2022. Get the details.

LifeReferrals 24/7

Relaxed Participation Requirements

KFF 2021 Employer Health Benefits Survey

To more effectively recruit and retain talent in today’s tight labor market, many employers are updating and expanding their health benefits to better align with employees’ needs as illustrated in the recently released Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) 2021 Employer Health Benefits Survey.

Conducted from January through July 2021, the KFF 2021 Employer Health Benefits Survey, of 1,686 randomly selected private and non-federal public employers of three or more workers, reveals how the pandemic affected workplace health benefits, including mental and behavioral health services, telemedicine, health and wellness programs, biometric screenings, and more.

Blue Shield 2022 Dental and Vision Updates

Dental and vision benefits are valued now more than ever by employers looking to attract and retain talent. To offer employers even more options, Blue Shield has made several updates for 2022.

Dental Plans

Available beginning January 1, 2022, Blue Shield’s enhanced simplified portfolio includes 22 new dental PPO plans that feature a clear hierarchy and navigation system that makes it easy to find plans based on employees’ needs.

Competitive Benefits Include:

All groups enrolled in a 2021 dental PPO may continue to renew into the same plan or choose one of the new 22 plans available at renewal.

All dental HMO plans now include a third dental cleaning for pregnant women to help maintain good oral hygiene. Dental HMO/PPO/DINO will allow a dental cleaning frequency of twice per consecutive 12-month period versus once every 6-months.

Vision Plans

To help members get the most value out of their vision plans, Blue Shield now includes standard progressive lenses on plans without premium progressive lenses and this change will be available:

Plus, an elective contact lens allowance will match the frame allowance and will be available:

Blue Shield’s Vision Plus plans cover both elective contact lenses and eyeglasses within the same benefit period. These plans will cover up to $150 for frame allowance and $150 for elective contact lenses, along with a standard contact lens fitting and evaluation.

Vision Plus plans that include the enhanced benefit:

Standard Progressive lenses (no-line bifocals) will be available on all plans with a $120 frame allowance at the same materials copay.

Humana – Jet Dental Pop-Up Dental Clinics

Effective immediately, Humana is partnering with Jet Dental® to offer onsite pop-up dental clinics for employer groups. These pop-up dental clinics offer easy and convenient onsite dental services to members at no cost to the employer. This service is available to all commercial groups with Humana Dental PPO plans. DHMO plans will be coming soon.

All Jet Dental providers are considered in-network with Humana PPO dental plans.

Set up is simple. The employer group picks a date. Jet Dental then sends an email to employees with a link to their booking tool. With a minimum of 20 appointments, the event is provided at no cost to the employer.

The most common procedures are preventive (exams, cleanings, x-rays) but other services such as cavity filling and deep cleaning can also be provided. And Glo Professional Teeth Whitening is available at a discounted rate.

For added peace of mind, Jet Dental follows all OSHA, ADA, CDC, and State Dental Board Rules and Regulations regarding patient safety and COVID protocols. All Jet Dental employees wear full PPE and additional protocols are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
